Snapshot '03-'08

2003

Posada Esperanza served 38 families. Since 2003, Posada Esperanza has been steadily expanding its capacity to serve homeless immigrant women and their families. The organization began a partnership with the AmeriCorps Keep Austin Housed program, allowing the program to receive AmeriCorps service volunteers specifically trained in issues pertaining to homelessness.
Ninety percent of Posada Esperanzas staff is provided by the AmeriCorps Keep Austin Housed program.

2006
Served 598 individuals (Casa 410, Posada 88) more than doubling the number of families served in the programs first year. While the growth of the program is impressive, that same year 86 families were turned away due to lack of space at the facility, highlighting the overwhelming need for more shelter services in the Austin area.

2007
Served 458 individuals (Casa 410, Posada 88) For this reason, in 2007, Posada Esperanza purchased a second house, adding room for three more families.

2008 (Budget $100,000)
Served 502 individuals (Posada 105, Casa 397) men, women and children who have no where to go. Three groups of women graduated from the job readiness program where they learn about their rights as workers, interview skills, communication skills, English for employment, sexual harassment in the workplace, and job search techniques. Due to loss in funding from the Keep Austin Housed program, they are seeking new sources of funding. Therefore, On Your Feet seeks to generate substantial proceeds from its events in order for Posada to continue to provide their much-needed services to the homeless in our community! The $12,000 raised from On Your Feet, 2008 was invested in the creation of a new highly successful education program at Posada Esperanza. Class curriculum includes English, healthy relationships, jewelry making, computer skills, and parenting. In the fall, Posada created an internship program to train community members to assist with the teaching of courses and providing of childcare while parents are in class. There has been excellent feedback from the clients of Posada Esperanza on the education program.

Whether you are able to join us on April 30 or not, feel free to join Posada in helping the homeless help themselves and their families.
